When my friend Sereina recommended this hotel to me, I suspected it was going to be great. But only when we arrived at the O Facho Guest House in Foz do Arelho, I realised how extremely and intensely awesome it was.
Situated right by the Atlantic ocean, the view and location couldn’t be better. For the first two nights, we were the only guests and enjoyed the peace and quiet (and the subsequent “The Shining” vibe that comes with a huge, old, creaking hotel).
I especially liked chatting with the owner, Jorge, over an apéritif. He tells some good sailor stories that are both dramatic and educational. For example, were you aware that the Mediterranean is one of the stormiest seas on this planet? I certainly wasn’t.
What a magical place, perfect for a seaside vacation!
